Immigration Assessment

Canada maintains the Federal Skilled Worker Express Entry Program and the Federal Skilled Trades Program to allow people with marketable skills and their families the opportunity to become permanent residents of Canada. If you’re considering immigration, the first thing to determine is which of the programs is appropriate. You must follow the directions in exact order and meet all qualifications before the Canadian government will consider you for citizenship.

Applying for the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Program

You first need to establish an Express Entry profile on a Canadian Visa website. The following criteria will be considered for your evaluation

  • Preferred Location within Canada
  • Wether you have Children under 19
  • Language Abilities in English and French
  • Education level
  • Work History
  • Job Offers from a Canadian Employer
  • Whether you have family or friends over age 18 living specifically in Canada
  • Your Net Worth

Once you submit the form, you will receive a score based on the program’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This determines your overall priority in a pool of other eligible candidates for immigration. The current minimum score is 67 on a 100-point scale.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

You may start the immigration process under this program if you meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum language proficiency equivalent to Canadian grade 7 in English and/or French for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • At least two years of continuous full-time work experience or the part-time equivalent over the past five years.
  • Meet all job requirement for your skilled trade as defined by the NOC except for needing a certificate to prove qualification.
  • Have received a valid offer from a Canadian employer for a full-time position that is expected to last one year or longer. Alternatively, you can request that a federal authority for a Canadian province or territory issue you a certificate of qualification.
  • Your skilled work experience must fall into one of the categories outlined in the NOC.
You cannot intend to live in Quebec and apply for this program since Quebec has its own requirements. You will also be required to show proof of funds to determine your ability to be self-supporting once you immigrate to Canada.
