With many individual and entities claiming expertise in the area of Canadian Immigration, it can be easy to fall prey to unqualified or unprofessional which may complicate or even endanger your immigration process.
About the Law Society of Ontario
The Law Society of Ontario, which governs all lawyers and paralegals operating out of Ontario Canada, safeguards the public interest, by enforcing a professional, ethical and competent practice by the Ontario lawyers.
Every lawyer and paralegal practicing out of Ontario, will be registered with the Law Society of Ontario and will be listed on their lawyer directory.
Before retaining a Canadian immigration lawyer, it’s a good idea to check their provincial law society directory to ensure they are properly licensed and in good standing. This will ensure you are being represented by a licensed attorney.
The “Certified Immigration Specialist” Designation
Certified immigration specialist is a sub-designation of the law society’s “Certified Specialist” program. Certified specialists are lawyers who are recognized and experienced in their field, meeting the certification standards set out by the Law Society of Ontario:
